Green Team

Temple Adath Israel has established a community garden at 125 North Hanover Avenue.  Families from the Temple and the community have worked together building beds, screening soil and preparing the ground for planting.  Religious school students have plant seeds indoors and later transplant in the garden.

We are looking forward to planting and caring for a fall garden with the students from the Temple Adath Israel religious school and Ashland Elementary.  Religious school director, Jane Grise is working to incorporate the garden into parts of the school curriculum that Jo Stone, Green Team¸ Co-Chair and the teachers will implement.

Our work is paying off in the harvesting of some crops, but we still have to deal with natures challenges like squirrels and squash borers.  We are researching to find better strategies for next year. We can always use new volunteers from a much wider community.  We certainly need those who can do labor in the garden, but also those who can help in planning for the future.  Any suggestions or knowledge to share from the community are welcome.

Anyone interested should contact Mickey Hernandez (859) 321-0121, Jherna7056@aol.com or Jo Stone (859) 226-0990, schoolgarden@windstream.net.

The Green Team would like to thank Lowell Nigoff for constructing a gate for the community garden.
